This year's retreat, led by Rev. Larry Peacock, is titled "Spiritual Leadership in a Time of Anxiety: Finding Rest, Guidance and Courage."
Rev. Peacock is former executive director of Rolling Ridge Retreat and Conference Center. He currently serves as director of the Franciscan Spiritual Center in Milwaukie, Oregon, a center for spiritual direction, programs and hospitality.
Richard Rohr, Franciscan writer and teacher, says if your prayer goes deep, your whole view of the world will change from fear to connection, and you will move from being driven to being drawn, from ego consciousness to soul awareness. (From is book of meditations titled "A Spring Within Us").
But, who has time for such prayer with all the demands of life, the polarization of communities and Holy Week services? This post-Easter retreat will give space for rest, for prayer, for community and enough content to stir our hope and rekindle our pastoral call to be spiritual leaders.
It takes courage to care for ourselves and to serve the communities within and outside the walls of the church. It takes guidance from our contemplative traditions and the prophetic voices of our times to be the leaders in ever changing situations.
Jesus once spoke to his disciples, Come away to a quiet place and rest awhile. Hear the invitation once again to come away with Jesus. We will rest awhile, listen for guidance and renew our courage and compassion.
