Connecting Neighbors: Preparing for Natural or Weather-Related Disasters and Human-Caused Threats
This disaster-readiness training from the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) is designed to equip church leaders and other participants to help your church prepare to be the church in the event of a natural or weather-related disaster or a human-caused tragedy in your own community.
Among the topics will be protecting church property and people from climate impacts, such as floods and severe weather and lessons learned by Newtown UMC in the wake of the 2012 shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School.
Chaos and fear can never be eliminated when faced with an overwhelming disaster, an active shooter or other disruptive events, but knowing your options, having an emergency action plan and preparing, in advance, for a disaster CAN turn your church into a "Disaster-Ready Congregation" to limit property damage and interrupted operations, as well as improving your ability to help others and save lives!
Cost is $15 per person for materials and lunch.
