New Hampshire Lay Servants

Our NH Lay Servant Team is busy at work and developing the plans needed to resource, train, equip and support all the state’s Lay Leadership.    As part of our commitment to grow our ministry in the state, we have subdivided the state into five regions (North, Central, Capital, Southwest, and Southeast), it is our hope to offer basic and advanced courses in all five of these regions, between now and annual conference in June.   We are also working to connect all of our local lay leaders, and lay Servants in order to help resource and connect each other in our journeys.   One of the methods which are implementing is a Facebook Group site for NH Lay Servants.   If you are a Lay Servant, Lay Leader, or would like to find out ways you can support these ministries – please connect with us at:

With that said, we are pleased to notify the district of our first offering:

Introduction to Lay Ministry - The Basic Course

This course is foundational for all courses in lay servant ministries. Participants are encouraged to discover and employ personal spiritual gifts as God intended and to consider the importance of exercising servant leadership, developing future leaders, remaining rooted in consistent spiritual practices, and being part of a group that holds members accountable in their discipleship.  This class will be offered at the Sanbornville UMC (173 Meadow St. Sanbornville NH), with Rev. Pam Maden leading the course.   The course will meet on two Saturdays, October 19, 2019 and November 2, 2019, from 9:00 am - 2:30 pm. Lunch is included.

Please reach out to Pam with questions, and for materials:

Again, we look forward to connecting all of lay leaders and lay servants and supporting the incredible work you do across New Hampshire!

Called to Preach:  Advance Lay Servant Ministry

Daytime Offering at Bow Mills UMC, Bow, NH

Called to Preach is designed for those who have not completed formal preaching training, for pastors seeking a basic refresher course, and for others who are called upon to preach in a pastor’s absence.   A down-to-earth, practical introduction to the ins and outs of preaching for lay preachers, bi-vocational pastors, and  others newly arrived in the pulpit.  Most of these individuals, observes Clifton Guthrie, can draw on a wealth of life experiences. This brief, practical guide offers specific, detailed instruction in the how-tos of preaching.  The Class will be led Rev. John Blackadar and Rev. Virg Fryer, meeting Tuesdays, October 22, 29, November 5, 12, and 19 from 10:00 – 12:00 noon at Bow Mills UMC, 505 South Street, Bow NH.

The Book that will drive these sessions is ‘From Pew to Pulpit’ by Clifton F. Guthrie  (Participants need to get and read the book before the beginning of class.).   There will be no charge for the class, but participants are required to pay for the book, and read the title before class.  For Questions/Information/Registration please visit or  contact Bow Mills at 603-224-0884, or via Again, for those interested in future Lay Servant Ministry Offerings, please see our district website at:  and follow the NH District Lay Servant Group on Facebook at:
