Congratulations to our New England youth representatives to the 2020 Northeastern Jurisdictional Conference.
The Northeastern Jurisdiction is the only one that has written into its rules that each Annual Conference shall have at least two youth representatives to each Jurisdictional Conference. The representatives to the 2020 NEJ Conference are: Chelsea Robinson and Barnabas Forndia.
Chelsea Robinson, from Weybridge, VT, is a high school junior. She is a member of the Middlebury UMC.
Asked why she wanted to serve as a NEJ Youth Delegate, Chelsea wrote: “Having grown up in an ever-changing United Methodist Church, I would like to have a voice to contribute to discussions about the future of our church. I would love to be a representative and learn more about the values of other people in this conference.”
Barnabas Forndia is from Worcester, MA, where he is a freshman in high school. He is a member of the Quinsigamond UMC.
Barnabas wrote: “I would like to represent New England as a youth representative because I see it as a great opportunity to have a voice in the church and get an insight to how some things work inside of the church.”
At the Jurisdictional Conference, which takes place July 13-17, 2020 in Hunt Valley, MD, the youth representatives are seated with their Annual Conference’s delegates. Expenses for representatives are paid by the Conference.
Youth representatives are entitled to present matters and have a voice on all matters before the Jurisdictional Conference consistent with the Rules of Order; they are not entitled to vote.
Under our process, NEAC youth currently in grades 8-12 were invited to nominate themselves to serve. Nominees were also required to get a recommendation from their pastor. A team of their peers from across the Conference read the nominations and selected the 2020 youth representatives.
The three other nominees will serve as alternates, and will fill a vacancy in the following order:
Savannah Helm, Aldersgate UMC, North Reading, MA
Galen Schad, St Paul's UMC, St Alban's UMC, VT
TJ Lynch, Aldersgate UMC, North Reading, MA
